NordenBladet – On Wednesday 13 February, The King awarded HM The King’s Medal and the Litteris et Artibus Medal during a ceremony in Queen Lovisa Ulrika’s Dining Hall at the Royal Palace of Stockholm.
The Seraphim Medal is presented “for outstanding services of a humanitarian nature or of general benefit to society”. It is Sweden’s oldest medal for reward or merit, and is the only medal for which the royal portrait is not replaced when a new monarch ascends to the throne. It therefore bears the image of King Fredrik I. The Seraphim Medal is awarded very rarely.
HM The King’s Medal, previously called the Court Medal, has been awarded since the first half of the 19th century in recognition of exceptional contributions, and for meritorious work within the Royal Court.
The Litteris et Artibus Medal was instituted in 1853 by Crown Prince Carl (XV). The medal is awarded for outstanding artistic contributions, mainly within the fields of music, theatrical performance and literature.
