Minister for European Affairs Tuppurainen to speak with German colleague

NordenBladet — Minister for European Affairs Tytti Tuppurainen will have a discussion with Germany’s new Minister of State for Europe Anna Lührmann on Wednesday 5 January. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting will be held remotely. In their meeting, the ministers will discuss a number of topical EU issues, such as the Strategic Compass, the rule of law, climate and energy, strategic autonomy, the single market and fiscal policy. The discussion will also touch on the EU’s relations with Russia and China and the situation with regard to migration at the border with Belarus.“The European Union must be a globally credible actor in security policy. Others cannot go over our heads in matters that concern us.  In addition to making use of the means available to us, we need new tools. Finland’s objective is an ambitious Strategic Compass that includes a comprehensive, forward-looking hybrid toolkit,” Minister Tuppurainen says.Finland and Germany are strong, close partners on EU affairs, as evidenced by the fact that the previous bilateral meeting between Minister for European Affairs Tuppurainen and her German counterpart took place just a short time ago. Booster doses are available already 3 months after completing the course of the vaccination

NordenBladet —

The state immunoprophylaxis committee decided that based on the fast spread of the new variant of COVID-19, and the experience from other countries, the interval between the vaccination course and the booster dose should be reduced.

By the new recommendations of the committee, people who were vaccinated with the Janssen vaccine, should have a booster dose two months after completing the vaccination course. It’s extremely important to have a booster dose because the current data shows that one dose of that vaccine is not protective enough compared to mRNA vaccines.

Vaccination courses completed with AstraZeneca, Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna, need a booster dose three months after completing the vaccination course.

For booster jabs, the committee still recommends using mRNA vaccines Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna, but there are exemptions, like allergic reactions to mRNA vaccines, when Janssen vaccine can be used.

The change is immediate, so it means, since the 21st of December, the booster doses are available with the new interval described above. There are plenty of vaccines in Estonia, so all people who would like that, can get their booster jabs as soon as possible. To book a slot for your booster, go to the digilugu.ee, call the state helpline 1247, or contact your family doctor.

The objectives of COVID-19 vaccination are to protect COVID-19 risk groups, to prevent and reduce COVID-19 related illness and death.  Vaccination can reduce the spread of the virus, the burden on the health system and the economy, and ensure the normal functioning of society.

The Estonian Immunoprophylaxis Expert Committee advises the Ministry of Social Affairs about the state immunization and other vaccination-related topics. It includes representatives of allergist-immunologists, family physicians, paediatrics, infectionists, nurses, National Health Board, the Agency of Medicines, Estonian Health Insurance Fund, and the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Norway: Princess Märtha Louise celebrates Christmas and New Year’s in Los Angeles

NordenBladet – It was an American Christmas for Princess Märtha Louise of Norway and her daughters.

For Christmas 2020, Princess Märtha Louise of Norway and her daughters were gathered with the Crown Prince’s Family at the Skaugum Estate for a magnificent Christmas celebration. They also celebrated there in 2019, when large parts of the family were gathered.

However, this Christmas, the Norwegian Royal Family celebrated without Princess Märtha Louise and her children, who had made other plans outside the Norwegian borders.

Princess Märtha Louise and all three of her daughters boarded a plane to the USA before Christmas to celebrate with the Princess’s boyfriend, the American Shaman Durek Verrett, in Los Angeles.

Small glimpses of the Christmas celebration have also been caught in on social media. Durek has shared a photo on his Instagram’s story function, where he is seen posing with Märtha Louise, Leah Isadora Behn and Maud Angelica Behn. Several are dressed in elf costumes. On the other hand, Emma Tallulah Behn is not seen in the picture, but she was present.

Shaman Durek Verrett has celebrated Christmas in Norway twice, but this year, it was time for him to show off his Christmas celebration in Los Angeles to his girlfriend and her daughters.

Norwegian media recently wrote about Durek’s state of health and about how the Princess has shown invaluable support to her boyfriend. Durek has issues with his kidneys and must have dialysis several times a week. Therefore, he can not travel far.

Christmas gave a different meaning to Princess Märtha Louise and her family two years ago, when Ari Behn – the Princess’s ex-husband and father of her three children – died. Märtha Louise has been open about her grief also this year. Before Christmas, she shared a photo on Instagram of a Christmas calendar, sewn by her mother, Queen Sonja, given to Princess Märtha Louise in her childhood. Märtha Louise says the calendar contributes to light in darkness they can experience in the run-up to Christmas.

The Norwegian Princess’s daughters start school this week. It is, therefore, expected that they will return to Norway at the beginning of this week, but it is not known if Princess Martha Louise will return to Norway at the same time.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto: Finland shares South Africa’s sorrow

NordenBladet — In his blog post, Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto commemorates the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu.Today, the South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu is laid to rest. The news of the passing of Tutu on 26 December 2021 have deeply touched millions of people around the world.Desmond Tutu was one of the opinion leaders and activists who helped bring an end to apartheid, or racial segregation, in South Africa. After Nelson Mandela was released from prison in 1990, Tutu worked closely with him, leading the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa. The campaign against apartheid was global. Outside the South African High Commission on London’s Trafalgar Square, demonstrations went on non-stop for four years, from 1986 to 1990. I can still remember the elated atmosphere, with people chanting “Free-e-e-e, Nelson Mandela!”Desmond Tutu was a moral compass whose greatest hope was to achieve justice, equality and freedom. His unwavering commitment to these values led him to pursue them throughout his life, both nationally and globally. He – like Finland’s former President Martti Ahtisaari – was a long-serving member of the Elders, a group of global leaders working together for peace, justice and human rights.Tutu emphasised the role of women in decision-making and conflict resolution. While much work remains to be done here, we would be well advised to follow Tutu’s example.Today, many in Finland join the South African people in their mourning and pay tribute to the life’s work of Desmond Tutu, a religious leader and a statesman.Pekka Haavisto

Helena-Reet: SHOULD I get a “winter home” in Spain, about cultural events, and about the new Mouse painting + GALLERIES!

NordenBladet – The year has begun actively and positively. I am observing my nutrition (I once again replaced breakfast sandwiches with a proper meal), and I made myself a present by deciding to give up alcohol for an indefinite period of time. I once more reopened my weight help account and I am keeping an eye on eating as healthy as possible, and for several months already I try to buy only e-additives-free food. It is so annoying that nowadays there are e-additives even in bread, white bread and whole wheat bread.

On January 1 I began searching for my sports watch, I charged it, and then we went for a walk. The watch helps count steps and helps remind us that it is important to move ourselves. In the summertime there is a lot of moving around and working in the garden, yet in winter I do not go outside much. So after that we went swimming for two hours and once we got back home we thought about possibly traveling to some place in the near future. And should we decide to go, then would we take the children or go alone. Would we go for a week or for an entire month etc. There is Covid-19 everywhere right now and we wouldn’t want to take the risk of staying in quarantine while abroad. We have also for some time now been thinking about getting us a “winter home” in the southern coast of Spain, Costa del Sol (we are actually keeping an eye on all of Andalusia regarding the real estate situation), yet this idea is not ripe at the moment.

It is so good to look up today’s and tomorrow’s power prices from our NordenBladet.ee electricity prices guidelines in real time! It is not good to boast but this app that we have created, is such great help! We have received so much positive feedback, we are using it ourselves and we are happy to hear that many others do the same. During today the electricity is in the green zone all day long (i.e. below 10 euro cents kWh), thus I planned to do the laundry today.

Last year we went to lots of concerts, performances and various events, and I decided that this year I will do the same and remain on the cultural wavelength. Right now I have already booked six new events for us:

* Giants’ Wonderland on the Song Festival Ground (Ivanka already went there once with her dad, but now we are going once more with the entire family)
* “Louis XIV – the Sun King” in the Estonian National Opera
* “Stand-up comedy of Priit Pius and Kait Kall Midagi Ikka (Still something)” in the Center for Russian Culture
* “Stand-up comedy of Ott Sepp JOKKER (Joker)“, also in the Center for Russian Culture
* “Eesti Laul 2022 (Estonian song contest 2022)” final event in Saku Suurhall – we also have seats there
* we also have tickets for the theatrical piece “ADA. The story untold” for August, in Kiidjärve Manor Park

The most recent event that we attended was “Eesti otsib superstaari“, the superfinals (see the full article about it on OHMYGOSSIP entertainment site HERE).

The beginning of the year has indeed been very active! I also just recently completed the first new painting, from the series of 14 mouse paintings that were exhibited at the Estonian National Museum, based on these I will also publish a children’s book about finances “His Highness Mouse the First“. Below you can see a few of the paintings from the ERM exhibition, and images from today’s painting! About the fourteen previous mice series paintings you can read more from my art blog at ElishevaShoshana.com site HERE.

Once more, wishing an active, full of inspiration, success and adventures New Year for you all!
Hugs!??

New Year Address of the President of the Riigikogu Jüri Ratas on Estonian Television

NordenBladet —

Dear Estonians, happy new year!

Perusing the Riigikogu verbatim records from over one hundred years ago, we come across the nice tradition of reading aloud the cablegrams with greetings that had been sent to the parliament.

“I wish you all the strength as you start your new work. May our home grow strong and the pillars at its gate solid.”

This greeting was sent to the Members of the Riigikogu by lieutenant Schmidt in early 1921 from Lithuania. That military representative of the Republic of Estonia later Estonicised his name to August Johannes Torma and became a distinguished diplomat. There is nothing antiquated about the core of his wish even today, which makes it very fitting to be conveyed to the Estonian people on the first day of 2022.

I hope that Christmas and New Year passed in joy and security for all of you. I am sure that many of you had the chance to spend the holidays with your families and close ones, or peacefully alone. Meanwhile, there were others who because of their jobs or their own free will upheld the sense of security and holiday cheer of every one of us. They did it in rescue commandos, police force, health care institutions, businesses, production facilities, associations, authorities, shops, media, foreign missions, or other roles. I take my hat off in gratitude to all of you and hope that there was enough peace of mind and holiday spirit to reach you as well.

People of Estonia!

My hope for the new year is that we would be able to support one another better. Those who share our beliefs but also those who challenge us in finding a common ground. The big should support the small, and the small should support the big – both in the direct and the metaphorical sense. In politics and daily lives. Across the nation and in local governments. Face to face, in public space, and online. Estonia’s success and happiness are best measured by those among us who have the least.

Reminding ourselves that one in ten Estonians live abroad for any number of reasons, one in five still live on the threshold of poverty, many are suffering from mental or physical abuse, too many have been subjected to an unfair treatment through no fault of their own, and that the Estonian population numbers still keep declining… If we want Estonia to be a good home for us all and for lieutenant Schmidt’s cablegram to ring true for centuries, what we most need are human relations and care for one another.

We also need to be smart and keep our sight on our future, so that we would always be able to overcome the crises and stumbling blocks on our path.

Although our security might continue to be sound, the security environment is more strained than during the last New Year. Even though economy is developing, many among us have become less certain of coping over the last year. We are a single nation and society but too many among us feel rejected. The health crisis has remained a sad fact and hundreds of people still had to spend these holidays in hospitals or in sick beds. The number of fatalities among us has been tragically high.

People of Estonia,

Nearly a century and a half before we started receiving professional health care advice from the Scientific Advisory Board, our celebrated poet Friedrich Reinhold Kreutzwald, who was after all also Võru city doctor, put together a health care manual for Estonian homes. In the foreword to this book from 1879, this figurehead of national enlightenment wrote:

  • Knowledge and life experience teach us that the sooner we deal with a problem, the quicker it can be overcome;
  • The signs of a disease need to be studied carefully to see which ones make it advance more lightly or more seriously;
  • Expenses cannot be skimped on because the higher a fire grows, the worse its consequences.

This is why I wish that we would all be fully committed to learning life’s lessons in the new year, taking note of concerns, recognising red flags, and getting everything under control more easily and early. All this to make the new year and the future centuries enjoyable for all of us and for the entire Estonia.

All the success to Estonia!

Jüri Ratas

The President of the Estonian Parliament

Helena-Reet: Shocking documentaries, my wonderful life + OUR TODAY’S NEW YEAR’S EVE!

NordenBladet – We woke at about ten today morning, since we stayed up late again last night. For the past two months we have been watching 2-3 different movies every night – documentaries as well as entertainment. The most recent documentaries happened to be extremely gloomy.

We watched from Youtube “The untold story. What happened to Otto Warmbier in North Korea?” (link to video). It was about the 22-year-old American student Otto Frederick Warmbier, who died six days after he was allowed back to the USA, then already being blind, deaf, with brain damage and in coma because of the torture, according to his parents. Yet another devastating movie was “Machine Gun Preacher” from TV1000 action, based on the book “Another Man’s War”, where Gerard Butler plays Sam Childers who until this day helps save children in South Sudan and Uganda (mainly war victims). Little children are not only victims of violence and abuse in war, armed groups recruit them forcefully and send them to commit ritual murders and to fight. Very gruesome was also Peter Kosminsky’s short drama series “The State” from National Geographic. It is about four British citizens that travel to Syria in order to join ISIS, and how, after joining the terror organization it is difficult for them to cope with reality.

Why do I write about this? Because our lives are better than Paradise! Ours and our children’s lives are PERFECT. I am so GRATEFUL and FORTUNATE for my life! And I so wish that there could be peace in the world! Let’s be kind to each other – to our close people as well as others! This is a beautiful thought to start the new year! ???

So, today we woke at around ten o’clock and I thanked the Almighty that I am able to wake up in a warm room held by a beloved person. I made breakfast (fried eggs with sweet pepper) and then I started doing laundry, cleaning the house and changing the sheets, so that the house would shine from cleanliness and so that the first day of the year could begin all tidy. Allan ploughed the snow, brought firewood, heated the house and began sorting and tidying his office.. Namely, he already promised two months ago that by the end of the year the office would be neat 😀

One day before the school holiday, Ivanka Shoshana caught a bad virus from school and she still is a bit ill, even her ear ached for some time. After that we all fell ill, we already thought we had caught Covid. We are all vaccinated, yet we had all the Omicrom symptoms – slight fever, running nose, sore throat, and even aching joints. We took the test at home, we also went to take the test at the doctor’s, from the nose. Luckily, the tests were negative.

Then I posted an article about traditions and activities of New Year’s Eve, that according to our forefathers bring luck and success – see HERE. Actually these are guidelines you could follow every day 🙂

Since Ivanka is still a bit ill, we decided to spend New Year’s Eve at home. Well, perhaps we would have stayed at home also in case she were alright. It is nice to be cosy indoors and at home! I still put on some makeup, I like to look good also at home for myself. I put on a retro-style Indiska dress, pearls, and Must de Cartier perfume! For supper I made super tasty puff pastry pizza. Yummmm… If you try it, you want more!

Here is the RECIPE! ??? It is very easy to prepare..

Tha base is yeast-puff pastry (Eesti Pagar), cover it with Felix ketchup. Then, to cover, chop 2-3 large tomatos, 2 average onions, 100g green olives (Figaro) and about 30-40g jalapenos (Santa Maria). Since in the fridge I already had tenderloin with wild garlic (Maks ja Moorits), then I chopped some meat (but the dish is also very good without meat!). This done, I added the spices. I use either Knorr or Maggi Spaghetti Bolognese spices and I add a lot of it (ca one and a half pack, ca 60-70g), then sprinkled some dill, thyme, and minced meat spices. For cover, I added sour cream and cheese. Trickle about half a pack 20% Alma sour cream over the plate pizza (unflavoured yogurt will also do), and then grate some cheese on top of it. I use two different ones – Valio Atleet and Valio Italian Forte Classico. If you wish, you can sprinkle also some seeds on top (sesame seeds or sunflower seeds). 40 minutes in the oven and it is ready!

Now we enjoy the evening! PS! We drink non-alco and gluten free GO Pilsner! I have decided to make myself a favour and give up alcohol for sometime. It is good for the body and for health.

Strong hugs to all of you, and I wish you a wonderful New Year! May all your good wishes come true! ???
